Notice: Problems With appgarth.com Domain and Website

The webhost for this site, BlueHost.com, has unfortunately become very unreliable. There have been regular server outages, DNS issues, etc. resulting in this website being unavailable, an “unknown host www.appgarth.com” error message being shown, etc. I'm very sorry about this. Given the almost total lack of registrations, and how few people seem to visit the appgarth.com, I can't really afford to throw away the rest of the time I've paid for BlueHost and move to a better provider.

About

Thoth 1.9 is a Macintosh usenet newsreader. Four versions are available. One supports Intel Macs running OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8. A second is for PowerPC Macs running OS X 10.5. Separate versions for Intel and PowerPC Macs running OS X 10.4 are also available. All four versions have the same complete set of features for fast and efficient newsreading with support for secure connections, server data compression, NZBs, and much more.

Thoth 1.9 Status

The current version of Thoth 1.9 is 1.9.0.21, last revised on December 10, 2012. It is described here.

Thoth 1.9 and OS X 10.8

Thoth 1.9 does work with OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). However, as it is not available from the App Store, and is not a signed/sandboxed application, Gatekeeper may object the first time you try to run Thoth (or Thoth Trial). You just need to instruct 10.8 that you wish to run Thoth 1.9. Please follow Apple's instructions under “How to open an app from a unidentified developer and exempt it from Gatekeeper” here.

Support is available via email. If you do not receive a reply, please check to see that email filtering is not blocking my response. Then try resending your email using an alternate, reliable, unfiltered email address.

The private, opt-in “Thoth Announcements” mailing list is used to send registered Thoth 1.9 users the download URLs for each new release, and also to inform users of important issues related to Thoth and its future development. All registered Thoth 1.9 users were emailed an invitation to join the mailing list.

If you're a registered Thoth 1.9 user and did not subscribe or need to re-download the current release, please email your request for the current download URL. Thank you.

Thoth 1.0.0. was released in November 2000. While all 45 updates prior to 1.9 were free to all registered users, Thoth 1.9 was the first paid Thoth update. Everyone who registered Thoth beginning in September 2010 and was not issued a refund, or who originally registered before 2004 and re-registered Thoth 1.8.x after 2004, was offered a free update to Thoth 1.9 in late 2010 or early 2011.

New users, or old Thoth 1.8.x and earlier users who were not emailed the offer of a free update, need to purchase a new registration to receive Thoth 1.9.0.

All 20+ 1.9.x updates have been free to registered Thoth 1.9 users.
